ARTIST KO, Artists and Musicians Marketing Cooperative, ushers the expansion of FILSCAP in Cebu. Filscap or Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers is a non-stock, non-profit association of composers, lyric-writers and music publishers to administer the public performance and reproduction rights of creators and owners of original musical works.

The organization represents the rights of both local and foreign composers, lyric-writers and music publishers. This means FILSCAP owns or controls in the Philippines an extensive worldwide repertoire of copyrighted local and foreign musical works.

FILSCAP’s role is to grant permission or license to music users and provide compensation through fees collected to composers, authors and publishers for usage of their works. The society operates to secure and distribute royalties for composers, lyricists and publishers when the musical works are played or performed locally and even overseas. They collect license fees on behalf of their members, who, individually, may find it difficult to monitor and collect performance royalties.

In other words, our local songwriters and lyricists will enjoy these services and protection the soonest they become FILSCAP members. This will also pave the way in giving our local establishments the chance to properly practice the payment of royalties when they use music in their public venues.

We, from ARTIST KO, consider this development a milestone for our local musicians and we will do everything in our power to support and assist FILSCAP in this transition and expansion process.
